Coin, sestertius
A copper alloy sestertius coin of Emperor Antoninus Pius, ruler of the Roman Empire, AD 138-161. The back of the coin depicts Apollo, the Graeco-Roman god of medicine, healing, music, arts and prophecy. This coin was minted in Rome, Italy, AD 140-144.
Obv: Laureate head of Antoninus Pius, facing right. Obv inscription: [ANTO]NINVS AVG PIVS PP [TR P COS III]. Rev: Apollo, standing front, head left, holding a patera (dish) in his extended right hand and a lyre in the left. Rev inscription: [AP]OLLIN[I AVGVSTO], [S]C in field.
