Boundary mark
Boundary marks like this one were displayed within the Metropolitan Police District after the passing of the London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act of 1861. They indicated the boundaries of the District wherein the Corporation of London was entitled to collect coal duties. This mark was originally fixed to the parapet of a bridge over the River Colne at Drayton Ford.
