Fire mark
Fire marks were placed on the outside of buildings to indicate that the property was insured by a specific company. This fire mark was issued by the Scottish Union Insurance Company which was founded in Edinburgh in 1824. The Company opened its first London branch on the Strand in 1834 and later in 1837 it opened an office on King William Street in the City of London.
