Scraper, cabinet scraper
This mahogany cabinet scraper forms part of a group of tools found in a fine early 19th century toolchest. It is possible that this tool was made by the toolchest's owner. Cabinet scrapers were used especially to remove any irregularities in the wood, such as that caused by cross-graining, at the finishing stage. The steel cutting edge needed to be very sharp.
