Out-cannel gouge, octagonal handle
This gouge with an octagonal wooden handle forms part of a group of tools contained in a fine early 19th century tool chest. The maker's mark 'Mitchell & Co' is to be found on the blade. Known as an 'out-cannel' blade it would have gouged out curved shapes in the wood.
