Telescope
The Wapping mathematical instrument maker, Thomas Ripley made this mahogany wood and brass telescope. Ripley worked at the 'Sign of the Globe, Quadrant and Spectacles, in Hermitage Basin. His maker's mark is engraved on the brass.
By the middle of the eighteenth century, London lead the European field in the manufacture of scientific instruments.
