Working History — 1820-1870
Try square
This try square forms part of a group of tools contained in a fine early 19th century toolchest. Many of the tools are marked W Gray. The try square carries the mark 'W T' on the hardwood handle or stock and was possibly not part of the original compliment of tools in the chest. Try squares consist of a hardwood handle with a blade fitted at 90 degrees to it. They were used for marking work about to be cut.
