Chisel, lock mortice chisel
This lock motice chisel forms part of a group of tools contained in a fine early 19th century toolchest. Many of the tools are marked W Gray. The chisel has no owner's name but was made by I Sorby of Sheffield. It was possibly not part of the original compliment of tools in the chest. Lock mortice chisels enabled slots to be cut for mortice locks in doors and furniture drawers.
