Working History — 1820-1870
Hammer, veneering hammer
This veneering hammer forms part of a group of tools contained in a fine early 19th century toolchest. Many of the tools are marked 'W Gray'. The hammer has no owner's mark and was possibly not part of the original compliment of tools in the chest. Veneering hammers were not used for stricking but for pressing down and smoothing the veneer so as to extract any excessive glue.
