Chatelaines were usually worn by women, and were designed to carry small personal items such as watches and scissors. This chatelaine is formed from a clasp and three linked plaques, which are worked in gold filigree. There are four chains suspended from the clasp, one of which has a long case (for holding pins or pencils) attached to it.
