Decorative arts — C. 1805
Necklace
Necklace, part of a parure including a pair of armlets and a pair of earrings. It is made of gold filigree and pearls, uniting gold plaques enamelled en camaieu with classical heads, cherubs, hymeneal emblems of doves, bows and quivers and musical instruments framed with half pearl and red enamel borders.
This set is a very rare survival from the French Empire period, since such fragile dress accessories rarely remain intact. The tubular filigree links uniting the plaques and bows of woven gold wire resemble those in a design published by Mésangère in around 1805.
