The Goose and Gridiron
Painted wood and iron tavern sign depicting a goose and a gridiron. The sign was previously hung outside the Goose and Gridiron tavern at St Paul's Churchyard. Hanging shop, business and tavern signs were particularly popular in the 18th and early 19th century when literacy levels were low and customers were not always able to read written signs.
