Working History — C. 1795
Pistol, holster pistol
This flintlock holster pistol was manufactured by James Grice, a gunsmith with a business in the City of London. Grice had this pistol 'proofed' (test-fired with an overweight charge) at the proof house at the Tower of London. All firearms manufactured had to be proofed to guarantee their safety. The Tower offered a rival proofing service to that of the London Gunmakers' Company. This pistol's brass mounts and barrel made it weather-resistant as they were less prone to rust in damp conditions.
