Printed Ephemera — 1810-1830
Edwd White, Parish Clerk & Undertaker
This small trade card of Edward White, parish clerk and undertaker, has an engraving of St Swithin's Church, Cannon Street. The church was associated particularly with the London Stone. It was united with St Mary Bothaw after that church was burnt down in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and not rebuilt. St Swithin's was badly damaged in the Second World War and finally demolished in 1962.
The trade card advertises the services of Edward White, Parish Clerk and Undertaker, 95 Cannon Street, London. On reverse, there are details of his other business where he ran a warehouse for baskets, brushes and turnery. He listed the following unusual range of items: matting hassocks, lapland rugs, door mats, sieves, French and India table mats, sponge, bassanettes, cradles, chairs, sparrow traps and eel baskets.
