Printed Ephemera — 1744-1770
John Briscoe
Newscutting printed with three notices including one posted by the goldsmith and jewellery, John Briscoe. The purpose of Briscoe's notice is to inform 'the public' of new stock available at his premises at the Three Kings and Golden Ball, near St Pauls in Cheapside including 'cheap tea kettles', cutlery, candlesticks, breadbaskets, watches and second hand plate. The third notice refers to a disabled child of about 6 years old, found abandoned on a chair in Paternoster Row, Cheapside. The child is described as 'an idiot' [historic offensive term], with fair hair, black eyes and 'otherwise pretty features' that appears to have 'such a weakness in his limbs so as to be incapable of standing'. The notice requests that anyone who has information about the child to inform the Beadle of St Faiths on payment of a guinea reward.
