Billhead, invoice
Copper-engraved billhead with handwritten invoice issued by the haberdashery and thread making firm of Wells, Wells, Headeach, Gilgrest and Neville, located at 52 Fleet Street. The billhead notes that the firm supplied bombazeens, black silk, muslins, silk stockings and cambric. Black bombazine (a fabric of silk and worsted or cotton) and black silk were traditionally used for mourning clothes. Dated September and October 1794 the invoice refers to the supply of blue and pink canterbury to Lady Long.
