Drinking glass, goblet
Cristallo glass goblet with round funnel bowl, hollow blown inverted baluster stem, basal merese and plain folded foot. The goblet is engraved with the Royal Arms and inscribed 'Maria Regina Haar Gesoneijt' , Queen Mary, her health (in Dutch). Made in the Netherlands in the style of Venetian glass.
The Dutch Prince William of Orange and his wife Mary (daughter of King James II) were Protestants, and became joint monarchs of Britain as William III and Mary II when James II, a Catholic, was ousted in the Glorious Revolution of 1689.
