Forepart of a vambrace (armour to protect the forearm), opening on a hinge and fastening with a spring catch. There are three rivet holes in the upper edge. In 1544 Erasmus Kirkener, the German Master of the Royal Armour Workshop, initiated a series of experiments to improve gilding techniques and to strengthen plate armour. This 'vambrace' was made at Greenwich for a suit of armour.
