Paintings, Prints & Drawings — 1989
Angel
This aerial view looks down the junction of City Road and Goswell Road with the Angel tube station on the right, under development, and Pentonville Road stretching beyond.
As well as depicting the mixture of Victorian buildings and modern office blocks, Sharon Beavan's painting also focuses on the area's redevelopment, evident by the presence of cranes and scaffolding in the scene. 'Angel' provides a comprehensive picture of late 20th century life in a central London borough, including the congested traffic and bustle of pedestrians. The bright colours of the painting also convey the variety and energy of the busy street.
