Prince Albert is portrayed standing, at three-quarter length facing left, with his head turned towards the spectator and wearing a blue uniform. The background consists of columns, a curtain, discarded robes and insignia on the right.
George Sephton's portrait is a partial copy from the upper-right section of the full-length painting by Francis Xaver Winterhalter, dated 1859, at Buckingham Palace. Albert became the Queen's consort upon their marriage on 10 February 1840 when both he and Victoria were twenty-one years old.
