The Illustrious Pair
Unmounted fan leaf. Cream paper printed in black with, centre, court feathers and a crown from which come streamers with the motto: "Ich Dien" beneath which is the title: "The Illustrious Pair" and either side an oval portraint of (left) a man, (right) a woman; garlands of flowers and bows along top: at bottom centre: "London, published Jany 1795 ... by J. Read, 133 Pall Mall". Engraving. (cf Schreiber, No. 13, p 4 - not identical; + No. 14 published at Sudlow's Fan Warehouse, 191 Strand). The Prince of Wales and Princess Caroline of Brunswick - a souvenir of their doomed marriage.
