The frontage on the Strand of the original Somerset House, built in 1547-50 for Lord Protector Somerset and recorded here at the time of its demolition to make way for the present Government offices designed by Sir William Chambers. Cf. A18130. With these two prints is a photocopy of the proposal for them, "as it will not be long before the Public are deprived viewing the Remains of this once celebrated Pile".
