War Damage: Park Crescent, Regent's Park
Painted during the middle of the Second World War, this picture portrays the impact of the war on an area of Regent's Park.
On a gloriously sunny day, workers can be seen reconstructing parts of Park Crescent which have been badly damaged. In the background, wooden supports shore up the wall of the bombed-out terrace.
Latham's painting dates from the period following the end of the Blitz, which devastated the capital. Between September 1940 and May 1941, the city was bombed repeatedly by German aircraft and large swathes of Central and East London were destroyed.
