Moses Gluck Clearing Things Off a Coffin, Stamford Hill, 2020
Funeral Director Moses Gluck clears things off a coffin destined for Israel. Lined upright in front of him are coffins for Orthodox Jews. These are oblong in shape and come in flat-packs made from simple chipboard, assembled on site. Non-Orthodox Jews would usually be buried in a more classic tapered shaped coffin but because he was so overstretched Moses had to use many of these simple coffins instead. Moses Gluck has been an Undertaker in Stamford Hill for over 30 years. He normally receives around 18 bodies in a month, but at the peak of the coronavirus crisis in Stamford Hill he had the same amount in a day.
Part of a project by Grey Hutton documenting the founders, volunteers and users of a range of local charities and community organisations in the borough of Hackney during the Covid-19 pandemic.
