The Salutation Tavern
Two Macaronies salute each other - the landlord on the left and a guest on the right - macaroni was first imported about this time and was the height of fashion; the word was then attached to those who made much of it and soon to foppishly fashionable people at large. BM Satire catalogue no. 4716.
