Your day begins at Rotherhithe with local Finds Liaison Officer, Stuart Wyatt, where you'll be expertly introduced to the exciting and immersive world of mudlarking.
During a two-hour tour of the foreshore, you'll learn how to spot fragments of London's buried history as it's revealed anew by the morning's low tide, and hear stories of important artefacts brought to Stuart by mudlarks.
Buoyed up by memories of your fascinating finds, you'll have time to travel back to London Museum Docklands and refresh yourselves before meeting with the lead curator of the Secrets of the Thames exhibition, Kate Sumnall.
Hear behind-the-scenes stories of the the creation of this landmark exhibition and get Kate's expert insight into some of its highlights before you enjoy this immersive space at your leisure.

The meeting point for the 10am foreshore tour is outside the historic Mayflower pub, 117 Rotherhithe, SE16 4NF. The nearest station is Rotherhithe (Windrush line). Bus routes 381 and C10.
The 1.30pm lead curator talk and tour will take place at London Museum Docklands, No. 1 Warehouse, West India Quay, E14 4AL. Tube and DLR: Canary Wharf, West India Quay or Westferry. Buses include 135, 277, D3 D7, D8, SL4, 786.
The recommended route from Rotherhithe to the museum is Rotherhithe to Shadwell (Windrush line) then Shadwell DLR to Westferry or Canary Wharf DLR. Travel costs are not included in the ticket price.
The museum cafe will be open for drinks, a light lunch and snacks. Various eateries are also nearby at Canary Wharf and West India Quay.
Please bring hand sanitiser as there may be no local hand-washing facilities while on the foreshore. Wash your hands with soap and water at he first available opportunity.
We also recommend you bring waterproof gloves. Although this isn't compulsory, it's important to cover broken sskin, eg eczema, cuts etc.
Please wear/bring sensible footwear like wellies, old trainers or walking boots. No sandals, high heels or bare feet.
This event isn't safe for dogs, so it's important that you don't bring your dog to the foreshore, as you will not be allowed to participate. Only access dogs are allowed in the museum.
Advance tickets are essential for this event. Tickets are available for adults 18+ only.
Your ticket will be sent directly to your inbox in your order confirmation email. If you can't find your ticket, please contact the Box Office.
To cancel tickets, please call the Box Office. Refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event takes place.
You will receive a full refund if your cancellation request is received seven or more days before the event.
You will receive a 50% refund if your request is received fewer than seven days before the event. This includes cancellations concerning illness, transport or unfavourable weather.
In the event that we're forced to cancel, you'll receive a full refund. We'll endeavour to get in touch with you with as much notice as possible via the contact details provided in your booking. If you should wish to still visit the exhibition in spite of the tour being cancelled, you can arrange this with our Box Office team or museum staff on the day.
Tours happen in a mixture of rain and shine, so don't assume that an event is cancelled because of a weather forecast.
In the event that London Museum is forced to cancel, you'll receive a full refund.
As a rough guide, these are the main weather conditions where we may need to contact you:
- snow and ice, making the ground treacherous
- heavy fog, which severely restricts visibility of the group by our staff
- lightning
- amber weather warnings
- yellow weather warnings, as although tours still tend to go ahead, we may need to use a different foreshore
Access to the foreshore is via a set of steep stairs and may not be suitable for patrons with limited mobility. Please contact us if you need further information.
Following the PLA’s regulations, if you don't have a permit you're not allowed to remove items from the foreshore.
Both permit holders and non-permit holders need to report objects of interest to the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
Visitors on the tour may take photos of their finds before returning them to the river. Guidance will be given on the day.
