Ionatan Wild Thief-taker General of Great Brittain & Ireland
Line engraved ticket of invitation to the execution of Jonathan Wild. At the top of the print is a half portrait of Jonathan Wild within an oval frame with the caption 'Jonathan Wild Thief-Taker General of Great Britain and Ireland'. Below is an elaborate cartouche including five small roundels illustrated with chains, stock and the Tyburn triple tree and a coffin below. The central panel text, flanked by illustrations of Father Time and a skeleton reads: 'To all the thieves, whores, pick-pockets, family fellons &c in Great Britain & Ireland. Gentlemen & Ladies you are hereby desir'd to accompany y'r worthy friend ye pious Mr J _ W _d from his seat at Whittingtons Colledge to ye Tripple Tree, where hes' to make his last Exit on _____ and his corps to be carry'd from thence to be decently Interr'd amongst his ancestors. Along the bottom of the print is written 'Pray bring this ticket with you'. Note reads: [illegible] May 1725'.
