Suffragette Procession June 17. 1911
Suffragette Coronation Procession June 17, 1911. The image depicts the Prisoner's pageant that 'formed up' immediately behind the Suffragette leaders. Here Christabel Pankhurst wearing her academic robe marches before the prisoner's banner that refers to the 617 women who, by 1911 had served terms of imprisonment for militancy. Letter is possible a sample letter from the printer H. Searjeant addressed to the Womens Social and Political Union, West Croydon.
The Women's Coronation procession was organised by 28 suffrage societies, including the Women's Social and Political Union, on 17 June 1911. Held a week before the coronation of George V, it aimed to enlist the support of the new King in achieving Votes for Women.
