Printed Ephemera — 1910-07-23
Postcard, photographic postcard
Suffragette procession organised by the Women's Social and Political Union and Women's Freedom League in support of the Conciliation Bill, 23rd July 1910. This event was organised to take place on the anniversary of the day in 1867 when men demonstrating for their inclusion in the Reform Bill pulled down the railings in Hyde Park. Two processions, one from the west involving members of the WFL and one from the east with members of the WSPU converged on Hyde Park where 150 speakers addressed at crowd of up to 20,000 from 40 platforms. This image depicts the West Procession organised by the Women's Freedom League with a Roman theme, focusing on Victory and Justice. In the centre can be seen a Suffragette carrying a placard representing 'Justice', before a flag in the gold, white and green colours of the WFL.
