Printed Ephemera — 1912
Postcard, photographic postcard
Photographic postcard of a crowd of people on Wimbledon Common. It is likely the photograph was taken in 1912 as part of a series of postcards by the Wimbledon photographer R. H. Frost and Company depicting Suffragette speeches and meetings on the Common led by Rose Lamartine Yates. When the Government tried to prevent the WSPU from holding public meetings in open spaces, Rose maintained the right of free speech on the Common, despite facing hostile crowds held back by a large police presence.
