Postcard with three oval shaped portraits. Printed beneath are the names 'Mrs. Pankhurst', 'Mrs. Pethick-Lawrence' and 'Mr. Pethick-Lawrence' and the title 'The Imprisoned Suffragette Leaders, May 22nd 1912'.
In May 1912, Emmeline Pankhurst, Emmeline Pethick-Lawrence and her husband Frederick Pethick-Lawrence, leaders of the Women's Social and Political Union, charged with conspiracy to commit damage, were sentenced to nine months in prison for a window smashing campaign carried out in March. 150 members of the WSPU had used hammers and stones to break hundreds of shop and office windows in the West End, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage, which the WSPU leaders also had to pay for.
