Suffragette Mabel Tuke
Studio portrait photograph of Mabel Tuke. On the back is handwritten 'M. M. Tuke, 23 Bloomfield Terrace, SW. 1910. Doing serious work for Girl's Clubs - [illegible] in Somers Town [illegible] at the same time, Hon Secretary of W.S.P.U fighting a Liberal [illegible] in the right to vote like men, for the law they have to obey. Mabel Tuke (1871-1962) joined the WSPU in 1906 and became joint Honorary Secretary. In March 1912 she and Emmeline Pankhurst threw a stone through the window of 10 Downing Street. They were arrested and Tuke was sentenced to three weeks in Holloway Gaol.
