Printed Ephemera — 1912
All About Birdie-Bird Blue
'All About Birdie-Bird Blue' was published in 1912 by Dean & Son Ltd., as number 7 in their 'All About' series. The title page states that the book is ‘written and illustrated by John Hargrave’, makeing it Hargrave’s earliest published work as a writer, as opposed to an illustrator. But this is Hargrave’s own copy and is inscribed, by him, ‘the illustrations are by J.H. & the verses by G.H’ (his father, Gordon Hargrave).
The book is not dated but Hargrave's diary records Dean accepting the illustrations in December 1911. Nos 6 and 8 in the All About series were published in 1911 and 1913 respectively
