London Views: The view of the Strand from A. G . Linney's office window in 1930.
The domed building in the centre is the Gaiety Theatre on the Aldwych which was built in 1868. The Gaiety was famous for staging musicals and when Linney took this shot, 'Darling I Love you' starring George Clarke was running. Despite poor reviews, the show ran for four months, but the Theatre itself was in poor condition. It closed in 1939 and was badly damaged by bombs during WW2. It was finally demolished in 1956.
