Dating back to the 12th century, St. Clements fell into disuse and decay in the 1970s and was only rescued by Proctor & Gamble whose factory lies alongside the graveyard. The church featured in the film 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and the graves of officers and cadets killed in 1915 on the training ship HMS Cornwall, are in the churchyard.
