Kibbo Kift: Script of the Lodge of Instruction
The Script of the Lodge of Instruction was written by John Hargrave as a self-education manual for the Kibbo Kift. Begun in 1923, individual sheets were originally circulated among members by post like a correspondance course, but were later bound together in a single book. The cover was the work of Winnifred Tuckfield ('Iarmailteach'). The magazine 'The Nomad' recorded on 15 October 1926':Iarmailteach has now completed the illuminating and lettering of the First Script of the Lodge of Instruction, and has bound it iin leather covers for the archives of the Kin. This is the first M.S. book of the Kin Library. It has taken 12 moons of steady work'.' Some other pages were illuminated by 'Mojag'.
The sheets comprise many drawings, diagrams and 'runes' (maxims) by Hargrave himself, all illustrating Kin beliefs. The scripts also includes chants to be recited at the ceremonies of opening and closing the Lodge of Instruction.
