Merlin
One of the Banners of the People, first shown at the Althing XI camp in June 1930. Kinlog records: 'Here were seen the first four of the Banners of the People, of Wayland Smith, Merlin, Beowulf and Hereward the Wake. They were worked on both sides in silver, blue, white and red, and were three feet each way'. The banners were made by Kathleen Milnes to John Hargrave's designs.
Hargrave's design for the Merlin banner, dated 1929, is also in the Museum's collection. Merlin was a mythical British magician, associated with King Arthur.
