Banner of the Place: Old Sarum
One of two Banners of the Place, designed by John Hargrave as a way of honouring 'the Sprit of the Place' in particular locations They were made up by 'Linnet' in 1929.
This banner represents Old Sarum (the ciruclar town plan) and Silbury Hill. It was carried to Old Sarum in August 1929, as part of a 'Wessex Pilgrimage', as recorded by 'Broadsheet', No 45, September 1929: 'Mole, Hawk, Angus Og and Owl ... carried with them the first Kibbo Kift Banner of the Place, to be dedicated to the Spirit of the Place at Old Sarum, the middle point of their journeying’.
