Tilbury Docks: The Cunard Liner 'Lancastria' departs on a cruise from the Tilbury passenger landing stage between 1934-1936
Employed as a troopship during WWII, she was sunk while evacuating British troops from St. Nazaire on 17th June, 1940. The enormous loss of life (5000 people) was kept from the public at the time and the incident remains Britain's worst maritime disaster.
