A busy scene in the Lower Pool
Lightermen are preparing a group of lighters for towage by the Thames Steam Tug and Lighterage company tug 'Wortha' . The steamer passing in mid-river is the General Steam Navigation Company's SS 'Petrel'. She was torpedoed and sunk in September, 1941. Photographed for E. Arnot Robertson's book 'Thames Portrait' (1937).
