Box, sewing tidy
Wooden box/ sewing tidy with slide lid. The lid has a painted motif on its top of a road, bridge over a river, trees and a house. This has a pale red border, and the entire lid has a green and black border. The lid slides out to reveal the top layer; this consist of pink compartments. They contain 8 thread bobbins, in pink, yellow, blue and green. The bobbins are made of bone and wood. One bobbin has a blue label which reads 'J. WREFORD & Co's CHINA SEWING SILK'. Also within the top section are 2 coins, one from 1818 from the reign of George III (unable to tell what kind of coin) and the second a farthing from 1862 during the reign of Queen Victoria. The coins are wrapped in a note which reads 'Given to me by my beloved Duarte the day we were married which was the 15th August 1818'. A second section of the box slides out from the bottom. This consists of one large pink compartment, containing threads in yellow, blue, pink, bronze colour, purple and white. There is also a metal thimble with decorative carvings.
