London Museum Docklands Archive — C.1915-1925
223 - 229. South Metropolitan Gas Works.
Canal view of South Metropolitan Gas Works, with barges. Note the barge 'Jumbo' piled with pipes, one of the company's own fleet used to transport coal and other goods. The photograph is one of over a hundred images covering the wharves and waterside buildings along Surrey Canal. The photographs were found stuck into a large Port of London Authority notebook and are annotated throughout in handwritten ink. We think it likely that the photographs were taken by a PLA employee.
