54 A. rebuilt. Croper Dennison & Watts.
Croper Dennison & Watts on Surrey Canal.
Note the cargo of coal in South Metropolitan Gas Co. lighters to the left of the picture. Coal was one of the major cargoes imported into London and the canal was used by this company to transport coal to its gas works on Old Kent Road.
The photograph is one of over a hundred images covering the wharves and waterside buildings along Surrey Canal. The photographs were found stuck into a large Port of London Authority notebook and are annotated throughout in handwritten ink. We think it likely that the photographs were taken by a PLA employee.
