Brent Cross shopping centre
The inside of Brent Cross Shopping Cente in 1978. The Centre was the first indoor shopping complex to be built in the UK and opened in 1976. At the time most shops opened from 9am -5pm with a half day on Wednesday, closing at 3pm, The idea of an enclosed centre which was open every day until 8pm was ground breaking and although dismissed by critics and the British press was immediately popular with shoppers. Proposals for the cente were rejected when they had been first proposed but after a public enquiry the designs were approved. Located at the junction of the M1 extention, A41 and the North Circular it attracted thousands of shoppers every day.
