Canteen at the American School in London
The canteen at the American School in London in 1971. The school was founded in 1951 by Stephen Eckard an American journalist and former teacher who was living in London. He was encouraged to do so by colleagues at the BBC as the differences between British and American curriculums could cause problems for families when they returned from the UK. In 1964 the school register had grown in number and fundraising started for a new building. Margaret Thatcher officially opened the school in December 1971.
