Student of Navigation working on an experiment in August 1981. The Department of Navigation was first established at the Sir John Cass Technical Institute in 1927. After existing in several guises in 1971 the Technical Institute became The City of London Polytechnic. In 2002 the City Polytechnic and the London Guildhall University merged to form the London Metropolitan University.
