Rachel MacMillan College of Education
A teacher reading to two pupils at the Rachel McMilllan College of Education. Scottish Socialist and Labour campaigner Rachel Macmillan moved to London in 1887. She later published a report on children's health and education and campaigned for the provision of healthy and nutritious meals at school. As well as establishing a clinic and night Camp for children, in 1914 Rachel and her sister opened an open air nursery and training centre in Peckham. Sadly Rachel died in 1917. The college moved to Deptford in 1930 and was merged firstly in 1976 with the London Polytechnic and then in 1977 with Goldsmith's College.
