Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
Visitors to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in May 1966 listen to a curator's talk. The exhibition which has been held every year since 1769 runs for 3 months over the summer. Entries are accepted from any artist and works include prints, paintings, drawings and sculpture as well as architectural models. In 1965 the exhibition had caused an outcry because the Academy attempted to encourage well known artists to submit paintings. In 1966 the Times newspaper Art Critic wrote that Norman Adams' painting "... 'Forms and Phantoms' in the Lecture Room is the most interesting painting in the exhibition".
