Billy Fury performing on 'Ready Steady Go' television programme
Billy Fury performing on ‘Ready, Steady, Go’ in 1964. Billy Fury was a popular 1960s rock and roll singer. Christened Ronald Wycherley, he was given his stage name by Larry Parnes, his first manager. In the 1960s Fury had more top ten hits than the Beatles, Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley. However, none of his records ever made it to the coveted No 1 spot. In 1964 when this photograph was taken he had hits with two songs ‘I will’ and ‘Its only make believe’.
