Westminster Abbey
Internal shot of Westminster Abbey, taken in April 1960. The building was begun by King Henry II in 1245 and is built in Gothic style around a medieval shrine. The three Master Masons working on the building were Henry of Reyns, John of Gloucester and Robert of Beverley. The Abbey has the highest vault in England which is made to feel even higher because the aisles are narrow in contrast to continental churches. The stonework and carvings would originally have been brightly coloured and the walls covered in vermilion and gold.
